Pharmacological Effects Ruginseng:

The most important active compounds present in ginseng are formed by ginsenosides, which are responsible for the therapeutic properties of this plant. Ginseng has various therapeutic properties that have been clinically tested to prove their effectiveness. These include adaptogenic properties, anti-cancer effects, antioxidant effects, anti-coagulant effects, antiviral effects (against influenza and common cold viruses), positive effects on the cardiovascular system, and blood sugar-lowering effects.

Dosage and Usage Ruginseng:

It is recommended to take two capsules one to two times a day.

Contraindications and Recommended Precautions:

  • Ginseng should be used with caution and under the supervision of a physician in patients with vascular disorders and diabetes.
  • Increased blood pressure has been reported in individuals who consume high doses of ginseng along with caffeine for an extended period.
  • The use of ginseng is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Due to ginseng’s estrogen-like effects, its use is not recommended for individuals with breast cancer, women experiencing unexplained genital bleeding, and individuals with thromboembolism or thrombophilia.

Side Effects:

  • General side effects may include insomnia, cerebral hemorrhage, headache, nausea, and nervousness.
  • Mild and reversible side effects such as insomnia, morning diarrhea, nervousness, increased blood pressure, euphoria, edema, and gastrointestinal disturbances have been observed in some users.

Drug Interactions:

  • Anti-diabetic drugs like insulin: Ginseng can lower blood sugar levels, so individuals who need to control their blood sugar should avoid using ginseng along with insulin and other anti-diabetic medications.
  • Warfarin / NSAIDs / Antiplatelet drugs
  • Phenelzine (MAOI): Headache, tremor, mania have been reported when these drugs are used concurrently with ginseng.
  • Loop diuretics, with furosemide being the most common, should not be used simultaneously with this herb.
  • Ginseng may potentially interact with digoxin.
  • Tamoxifen or other estrogen receptor antagonists also have interactions with ginseng.
