Pharmacological Effects Ruhemorrin:
The plant known as Butcher’s Broom, often found in northern forests and referred to as kuleh khas in Persian, yields compounds including the primary active substances called the steroidal saponins ruscogenin and neoruscogenin. These compounds, with the highest concentration in the root, which is the medicinal part of the plant, exhibit stimulating effects on alpha-1 and alpha-2 adrenergic receptors due to the presence of these steroid saponins. This leads to positive effects on vascular tone, particularly on veins. Animal and in vitro studies suggest that this plant can reduce vascular permeability. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the plant in improving symptoms related to vascular issues in the legs, such as itching, edema, pain, heaviness, and varicose veins, has been established. Other studies have also demonstrated the positive effects of this plant in treating hemorrhoids and the associated itching and burning sensations.
